PRIVACY POLICY FOR CERTWATCH
Last Updated: June 16, 2026
CertWatch ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in the CertWatch mobile application.
1. PRIVACY-FIRST PHILOSOPHY
CertWatch is designed as a local-only utility tool. We believe your data belongs to you. The application is built to perform all core functions directly on your device without the need for an external account or server-side data processing.
2. INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE
A. Personal Information
CertWatch does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, phone number, or physical address.
B. Monitored Data (Hostnames)
The hostnames and URLs you add for monitoring are stored locally on your device's internal storage using an encrypted-at-rest database. This data is NEVER uploaded to our servers or shared with any third parties.
C. Certificate Data
When the app performs a certificate check, it establishes a direct TLS/SSL handshake between your device and the target hostname. The resulting certificate information (fingerprints, expiry dates, issuer details) is stored locally on your device to provide you with monitoring history and alerts.
3. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
A. Google Play Billing
The app offers an optional one-time purchase to remove advertisements. This transaction is processed securely by Google Play Billing. We do not have access to your credit card details or financial information.
B. Google AdMob
The free version of the app displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use service-related information (such as your device's advertising ID) to show relevant ads. You can manage your ad preferences or opt-out of personalized advertising through your Android device settings. Once the "Remove Ads" purchase is made, all AdMob components are disabled.
4. DATA SECURITY
All application data is stored within the app's private directory on your device. We utilize standard Android security practices to ensure your data remains isolated from other applications. Because we do not store your data on our servers, we cannot recover your monitored list if you lose your device or uninstall the app without a manual backup.
5. PERMISSIONS
- Internet: Required to perform TLS handshakes with the hostnames you monitor and to load advertisements.
- Notifications: Required to alert you when a certificate is about to expire or has changed.
- Background Work: Required to perform periodic checks according to your selected interval.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
CertWatch does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.
7. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and within the application's settings.
